Son proudly keeps farmhouse tradition alive! |
|
|
When Gina Burt found herself kicking her heels as her two sons reached their teenage years, she began providing good traditional home baking from her farmhouse kitchen to local farm shops. Farmhouse Cookery was born. Nearly 20 years later her principles and traditions are proudly carried on by son Jason Burt. In 1988 Gina Burt found her sons had grown up and she was left twiddling her thumbs! So, determined to use her time as productively as possible she began baking traditional english cakes in her farmhouse kitchen in Funtington, and supplying a few local shops. Soon demand became so great that she had to start employing a few local ladies to help her. When her oldest son Jason left school he joined Farmhouse Cookery and mother and son worked side by side to bring good quality cakes to their customers. Nearly 20 years later they have moved into larger premises in Bosham and employ over 20 local people. They remian true to their principles; using local ingredients where possible; making, icing and packing their cakes by hand; being as ecologically sound as possible. Farmhouse Cookery now provide their cakes, bakes and pavlovas across most of the South Coast and beyond North London. They proudly took part in the Waitrose advertising campaign last year as part of their Local Producers project; they hope to expand the business over the coming year to enable them to support more customers with their traditional produce. When asked how he feels about his cakes Jason's reply is simple: "We make a slice of farmhouse heaven". |
